1.10 upgrade status thread

Post by bigpresh » Fri Jun 10, 2016 8:36 am

Hi all,

I'm sure people will be starting to ask "hey, when can we have 1.10", "why haven't you updated yet" etc, so I'm posting this as an easy answer to refer to.

We see that 1.10 is out, and Spigot have, amazingly quickly, got a 1.10 build (Spigot being the MC server software we use).

We're currently testing it out on our test server before we commit to updating the live server. It's a good job we didn't rush in to it, as there was a bug which Spigot have since fixed causing item frames and their contents to disappear, and one where Nether portals would often TP you straight into the void, killing you - so had we upgraded right away, we'd have a lot of unhappy players :)

We're continuing to test more recent 1.10 builds on our test server, and will upgrade the live server as and when we're reasonably confident that all is well.

I've shared little bits of info on IRC, but just to update this post so everyone sees it - we tested 1.10 on the test server, and hit some problems.

One is that Grief Prevention needed updating to the latest stable version, which works with 1.10 - we did that on the test server, but it did not prevent animals (and armour stands, and other combustible entities) from fire damage caused by flaming arrows, because of a Spigot change a couple of weeks or so ago that they've not yet updated GP to deal with. I raised a ticket back on Jun 4th: http://dev.bukkit.org/bukkit-plugins/gr ... ce-recent/ and SMC managed a quick fix, but the version of GP he fixed up doesn't work on 1.10.

I've managed to do some refactoring of the GP code in order to handle both normal damage and combustion without code duplication, and have submitted that fix upstream (a pull request on GitHub - hopefully the GP devs will merge it and get a new release out soon!) - but in the meantime, we now have a version of GP with my fixes which works.

We'll be continuing to test it over the next day or two, to make sure everything is protected the way it should be with no weird edge cases - in particular armour stands, item frames, etc and also testing PvP protection - I think our auto protection code needs a few tweaks, too.

Once all seems well on the test server, then we should be able to upgrade the server to 1.10 soon.

Happy to say the 1.10 upgrade is now done, and all seems OK.

If you spot any problems or glitches etc, please let me know!

Cheers
